10,368 MHZ - EME
10-GHz EME Station Details:
Above are photos of the 2.4m dish that I plan to use for 10,368 MHz EME. It was originally
part of a ku-band shipboard VSATsatellite data terminal which cost $100K. I bought it in
1996 surplus for $100, which included delivery. It is mounted on a 7-foot wide by 16-foot
long 4,000 lb. steel skid and enclosed in a 14-foot geodesic radome. I am removing the
radome, since access to the feedpoint is very difficult due to the close fit of the dish
to the inside of the radome.
September 2006 Update:
The 2.4 meter dish was moved to the new QTH (9/21/2006). We hired a large boom truck to remove the
top half of the geodestic dome (which had previously been cut with a skill saw and knife) and then
lifted the dish assembly up from the base and placed it on a temporary wooden frame. This was set in
the rear of my pickup for moving to our new home. The boom truck then set the dish on the ground
adjacent to where the 2 meter EME tower is to be installed. There is small window looking southwest
that will permit the dish to be tested after the az-el system is made functional. Eventually, the
dish be mounted on a short tower (see drawing, above) at another location of the property where
there is a small view thru the trees toward Anchorage that may permit terrestrial microwave use of
the dish.
