1296 MHZ MICROWAVE

Station Description:
January 22, 2012:

Made some changes since 2005: Using a single 45-element Loop-Yagi with 1/2-inch feedline from TR
relay/preamp box. Preamp is a WD5AGO 2-stage preamp with 0.30 dBNF, 31-dBGain which is considerably
better than the DEMI preamp. A new (2010) 1296-28 transverter drives the KJ6KO Amplifier with 6w
with about 18w reaching tower top. The KJ6KO amp will eventually be installed inside the tower enclosure
so that nearly 50w will be available at the antenna. This is awaiting warmer wx and installation of
a 28vdc 50amp Power Supply at the base of the tower.

   September 10, 2005:

I have mounted two 45-element Loop Yagis inside my 2m EME array. They are
stacked vertically using 1/2-inch Heliax and a Directive Systems 2-way divider. A DEMI (Downeast
Microwave) preamp is mounted with a CN-520 coax relay in a plastic food container on the elevation
boom. The 7/8-inch feedline for 2m EME is shared with 1296 for transmit by use of a CN-600NL
relay. LMR-400 coax was run from the 1296 MHz preamp to the DEMI transverter. The transverter
drives a DEMI 2318 PA which drives a KJ6KO 60 watt Amplifier. Here are some recent photos:

Local Activity:

At present there is not much activity in Alaska above 2 meters on SSB/CW. There are a few stations
that have 1296-MHz capability in the Anchorage area, so that there is potential for weak-signal
activity. It is my belief that my station at 98-km from Anchorage may provide a challenge and
incentive. I would like to see an activity net for 432 and 1296-MHz SSB be established here.

This could become a spring-board to generating interest in the microwave bands in Alaska.
Note: KL7FZ, KL7AR, KL6M, and KL7XJ all have indicated they have 1296 and interested.
