Some Favorite Alaskan Small Towns
Under Construction
"Probably my favorite town in Alaska. No surprise as I lived there for ten years".
Here time goes back to the "gold rush". Only 88-miles from Anchorage but a whole
different "place and time"! People are freindly and everyone knows your name.
COOPER LANDING
Very pretty place on Kenai Lake surrounded by mountains. On the road from
Anchorage to Soldotna. Kenai River fishing in your backyard!
TALKEETNA
Off the beaten path. One of several end-of-the-road towns where life is pretty nice!
This is still somewhat the frontier town one thinks of when thinking "Alaska".
EAGLE
The first place I visited upon arriving in Alaska. This is hard-core interior Alaska.
Cut off from civilization during sub-arctic winter. Independent self-reliant folks. Lots
of history from the 1898 Klondike Gold Rush...and still gold and fur trapping in the hills!
CHITINA and McCARTHY
I won a homestead in the state land lottery 8-miles from McCarthy in 1983. This wild and
beautiful valley bordered by high mountains reminds one of the Rocky Mountains. Lots
of back in the bush living. History of the Kennicott copper mine. The road is laid on the
old railroad bed.
SELDOVIA
I have yet to visit this picturesque village on the south shore of Kachemak Bay
across from Homer. Anyone who has visited or lived there has great memories. It was
the main port for gold rushers coming into Cook Inlet in the late 1800's.
